The community pays tribute to the memory of Georges N. Frem.
5 May 2007 marked the one-year passing of Georges N. Frem, INDEVCO Founder and Former Chairman.
Throughout the first week of May, a series of events were hosted by local organizations and the international manufacturing group he established. These memorials are a testament to the depth of Frem’s character and the strength of his will to transform Lebanese society for the better.
Award for Civic Responsibility & Human Dignity
On Sunday, 29 April, Lebanese American University (LAU) held its second annual Model United Nations High School Conference.
During the opening ceremony, LAU President Dr. Joseph Jabra bestowed the Award for Civic Responsibility and Human Dignity on the late Georges Frem.
Neemat Georges Frem, Chairman of INDEVCO, received the award in front of more than 700 students and professionals. In addition, the audience watched a documentary about Frem.
Throughout his life, Georges Frem worked ardently to improve the industrial sector in Lebanon. In 2000, he was appointed Lebanese Minister of Industry.
Frem also participated actively in professional organizations, such as the Association of Lebanese Industrialists (ALI).
On 3 May 2007, fellow industrialists within the ALI remembered Frem’s accomplishments in a memorial entitled “Oath & Loyalty”. Fadi Abboud, ALI President, highlighted Frem’s many successes as Minister, primarily modernization of the sector.
Fadi Samaha, Former Director General of the Ministry, explained how Frem increased competitiveness of the industry in Lebanon. During his appointment, Frem raised $250-300 million dollars in investments, created more than 5000 jobs, and increased exports by 20%.
A documentary featured Frem’s achievements. Neemat Frem concluded the event with a brief speech about his father’s values and virtues.
Throughout the first week of May, INDEVCO employees in Lebanon attended commemoration masses at their respective companies and manufacturing plants.
In a public mass on Sunday, 6 May 2007, over 1000 participants joined the Frem family in prayer at Apôtres College in Jounieh, Lebanon. The mass was delivered by Bishop Roland Abou Jaoude:
“Georges, you lived as a great man and died even greater. You were great not through your huge accomplishments, nor your wealth, or successes. You were great in your modesty and simplicity.”
Know for his humbleness, Georges Frem has been a role model for his family members, colleagues, and the community at large.
