Unipak Nile Member Introduces Efficient Grinding Method

For OUTBOUND home page, go to http://outbound.indevcogroup.com/

Fawzi Zougheib explores a new method for the pre-heater grinding on the corrugator line.

Unipak Nile Maintenance Supervisor, Fawzi Zougheib has recently introduced an efficient method for grinding a pre-heater. The pre-heater is a 2500 mm-long cylinder used to heat the paper in order to open its porosity and remove humidity.

While traditional grinding method consists of removing the pre-heater from the corrugator machine in order to be grinded for 10 days, Fawzi began grinding the cylinder as it is fully functioning on the corrugator.

This new method saves USD 2000 per grinding process, decreases waste generated from wrapped and delaminated sheets and increases speed on the corrugator.

Fawzi's strong attention to details and his initiative spirit allowed him to explore this method.

The Grinding practice is a large and diverse area of manufacturing and toolmaking. It can produce very fine finishes and very accurate dimensions; yet in mass production contexts it can also rough out large volumes of metal quite rapidly. [1]

Easternpak Implements Saudi Labor Law for Recruiting Women

For OUTBOUND home page, go to http://outbound.indevcogroup.com

Easternpak Ltd. currently employs four women in the administration and customer service in accordance with the Saudi Labor law, which permitted companies in Saudi Arabia to recruit female employees effective 26 April 2006.

Saudi labor department authorities assessed the facilities of the corrugated packaging manufacturer in Dammam, Saudi Arabia and granted official clearance to have women employees.

Easternpak's Human Resources strategy focuses on implementing such employment practices in order to ensure a smoother and more productive work environment in line with the Saudization program.

Saudization Program

Saudization refers to the national policy in Saudi Arabia to encourage employment of Saudi nationals in the private sector, which, as of 2006, is largely dominated by expatriate workers from South and Southeast Asia. As of 2006, the program has met with little success.

The Saudi government has enacted policies to promote Saudization, including warnings that "companies which fail to comply with Saudization regulations will not be awarded government contracts".

As of April 2009 it was reported that Saudi campaign seeks to reduce number of foreign workers.[1]

5S Training

Wissam Sayegh conducts the seminar

Seminar Area Made as per Five S Principles

Five S Program Overview

Toyota, global motor manufacturer, set five principles for assuring an organized work area. These principles are good housekeeping practices which can have a major impact on any organization. The principles have also been referred to as the five keys to a total quality environment.

The 5S's are:

Phase 1: Sorting: Going through all the tools, materials, etc., in the plant and work area and keeping only essential items. Everything else is stored or discarded.

Phase 2: Straighten or Set in Order: Focuses on efficiency. When we translate this to "Straighten or Set in Order", it sounds like more sorting or sweeping, but the intent is to arrange the tools, equipment and parts in a manner that promotes work flow.

Phase 3: Sweeping or Shining or Cleanliness: Systematic Cleaning or the need to keep the workplace clean as well as neat.

Phase 4: Standardizing: Standardized work practices or operating in a consistent and standardized fashion.

Phase 5: Sustaining the discipline: Refers to maintaining and reviewing standards.

Interstate Paper Industries Begins Full Operation

For OUTBOUND home page, go to http://outbound.indevcogroup.com

Tissue converters from Europe, the Middle East and Africa can now source parent tissue reels from INDEVCO tissue mill in Egypt.

Interstate Paper Industries (IPI) in Sadat City, Egypt recently launched operations and exported its first containers of jumbo tissue rolls to Saudi Arabia and Cyprus the beginning of July.

The greenfield tissue mill will produce up to 30,000 MT of premium grade tissue paper annually using imported virgin pulp. Once the PM4 and deinking plants start up in Q2 2010, the additional 30,000 MT of production will rely on waste paper as raw material to produce recycled parent tissue rolls.

Further, the mill's gas-fired power plant will be up and running in August, offering significant savings in cost of energy.

According to Raja Mouracade, IPI Resident Manager,

"IPI is one major project that has been totally engineered and built using INDEVCO’s own internal resources. The key success factor has been the team approach adopted by IPI, Unipak Tissue Mill (UTM), Phoenix Machinery, PMD, and INDEVCO engineers, technicians, procurement and support staff. This team spirit will be further strengthened during the building and erection of PM4 (tissue machine)."
PM4 is expected to start up in Q2 2010.

Solid Fuel Burner with Eco-Energy Fuel Offers New Home Heating Options

For OUTBOUND home page, go to http://outbound.indevcogroup.com/

A new biomass product, developed by Phoenix Machinery, is both ecological and energy efficient.

Phoenix Energy, a division of Phoenix Machinery, focuses on developing new renewable energy options for the Lebanese market. The company's new solid fuel boiler machine runs on biomass solid fuel - made from olive and grape husks, materials aplenty in the Mediterranean region. The boiler, fueled by solid fuel, packed in 15 kg bags,
will help consumers reduce their impact on the environment.

Solid fuel is a mixture of 100% natural renewable products: olive husk and grape seed husk and agricultural waste. Phoenix uses these agricultural by-products and waste given their abundance and solves oil producers' problem of discarding husk.

Eco-energy solid fuel packed in three-layer, 15-kg paper bags

Energy Facts by Phoenix Machinery

In Lebanon, olive oil is commonly pressed through the traditional press (stone wheel grinding) and the three-phase separation process. Husk from three-phase separation contains 40-45% moisture, compared to 20-25% moisture of the traditional press. In addition to moisture, the olive husk is composed of cracked olive cores, olive pulp, pericarps, and 6-9% oil. [1]

These by-products, similar in cell structure to wood and fueled by the olive oil, are great for burning. The calorific value of dried olive husk around half as much as conventional heating diesel: 23,000 KJ/Kg compared to 40,000 KJ/Kg [2].

Compared to other renewable energy sources, biomass is an economical contributor to reducing CO2 and CO emissions. When burnt at full combustion, olive husk CO emissions release approximately 100 parts per million (ppm) compared to diesel CO emissions at 400 ppm.

In addition to reducing CO emissions, and unlike potentially toxic coal ash, biomass ash may be used as a soil amendment to replenish nutrients removed by harvest. [3].
