MRE Packaging from Interstate Resources Wins First Place
For OUTBOUND home page, go to http://outbound.indevcogroup.com
Reduced-fiber 'Meals Ready to Eat' packaging from Interstate Resources weighs less without losing strength and protects against moisture.
The Combat Feeding Directorate - Advanced Materials Team and Interstate Resources, Inc. received First Place in the 2010 Design Competition of the National Institute of Packaging, Handling & Logistics Engineers (NIPHLE).
Their winning entry in the Short Life Category, called Advanced Secondary Packaging for Military Rations, was corrugated packaging designed for 'Meals Ready to Eat' (MREs).
Jason Niedzwiecki from Natick Soldier Research, Engineering & Development Center in Natick, Massachusetts, accepted the award on behalf of the team. By reducing the fiber content of the materials, this award-winning design reduced the weight of the packaging without losing strength.
Not only did the team create a lighter package, but they also incorporated specialized coatings for moisture protection. Their innovative product is also recyclable, a benefit to any supply chain.
Keith Gray of Interstate Container Lowell and Larry Nykwest of Interstate Resources were an instrumental part of the design team.
Interstate Container Lowell is a member of Interstate Resources, a member of INDEVCO Group.
