Interstate Paper Receives 2010 Energy Saver Award

Interstate Paper accepted the Energy Saver Award during the third annual 2010 Save Energy Now Awards ceremony at the Energy Efficiency Global Forum on 10 May 2010 in Washington, D.C.

U.S-based kraft linerboard mill in Riceboro, Georgia, managed to save more than 75,000 million British thermal unit (Btu) of total energy savings. Award-winning companies were able to reduce their energy bills and carbon emissions and this demonstrates how energy efficiency can help strengthen the nation's energy security, environmental quality, and economic vitality.

In 2009, more than 500 plants applied and received energy assessments by a Department of Energy (DOE) expert or university-based Industrial Assessment Center. Ninety-five plants received the Energy Saver award.

The U.S. Department of Energy (DOE) recognized 151 U.S. manufacturers for pursuing energy-saving opportunities which has led to a total of more than $32 million in cost savings and 4 trillion British thermal unit (Btu) in total energy savings over the past year.
