Saudi-based corrugated packaging manufacturer, Easternpak, passed BRC/IoP detailed audit and receivedGlobal Standard for Packaging and Packaging Material’ certification, with no exclusions.

With the continuous increase in concerns for what is deemed as safe materials for food contact, as well as the growing health and recycling issues, Easternpak’s BRC/IoP certification indicates the manufacturer’s adherence to corporate, social and environmental responsibilities.

By the end of Q2 2011, Easternpak underwent the BRC/IoP audit, conducted by Karl Hernmann from TÜV NORD CERT, Germany. The corrugated packaging manufacturer was lauded for good results and progress.

Fouad Khalil, Easternpak General Manager, states,

“Sustaining a food safety management system is a very important aspect in our on-going good-to-great company transition. The successful continuation of BRC/IoP certification reinforces our commitment towards the transition and our continuous commitment to supplying safe products to food customers.”

BRC/IoP certification verifies the corrugated packaging manufacturer’s technical performance. The certification also confirms that Easternpak meets international safety, legal and quality standards for food packaging products, as well as adheres to principles from existing quality management systems, such as ISO and HACCP.[1]

In coordination with the Institute of Packaging (IoP), the British Retail Consortium (BRC), a UK trade association, developed the BRC/IoP Global Standard for Packaging and other Packaging Materials.

The 3rd edition of this standard extends to non-food packaging producers and emphasizes more on senior management efforts and commitment to achieving product quality and safety. It also includes expanded sections focusing on control of in-line testing equipment, product design and development, and site security.[2]

Easternpak manufactures retail ready packaging, shelf ready packaging, point-of-purchase (POP) displays, promotional cartons, and corrugated boxes for the agricultural, beverage, catering, dairy, hygiene disposables, industrial, petro/chemical, processed food, paramedical, soap and detergent industries.
